Are dried fruit healthy or not??

One thing is for sure: Dried fruits are unique, tasty and nutritious!!! But are they healthy? Yes, dried fruit are healthy but they are more caloric then fresh fruits because most of the water content has been removed. Nevertheless, you just have to remember to eat half what you’d normally consume in a fresh fruit for weight control purposes.

The dry apricot is a great source of vitamin A, iron, and potassium, especially when dried. Apricots have a higher nutrient density than almost any other fruit.

Figs are one of the highest plant sources of calcium, as well as phosphorous, potassium,beta-carotene, vitamin C, and they are a high source of fiber and iron with no fat, sodium, or cholesterol. Harvesting takes place mostly in late summer through early fall but dried figs are usually available year round. Figs provide more fiber than any other common fruit or vegetable.

Prunes have high antioxidant content and are also high in fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin B6. Prunes are primarily known as a helpful digestive and are also recommended to prevent heart disease because of their amino-acid content.

Raisins are high in antioxidants like apricots and prunes.


Because of their long history and prevalence, the uses for dates are many and varied, from consuming the simple fruit to stuffing it with walnuts or almonds. Dates have a high tannin content giving them many traditional medicinal applications.

So, if you like dried fruits, you can eat them with no fear, because they are healthy. And if you can, try to buy organic dried fruits or you can try to dry your own fruits at home. You can choose sun drying (is the best way), solar drying or you can use a food dehydrator.
Dried fruits can be your healthy snack (you just have to remember to eat half what you’d normally consume in a fresh fruit for weight control purposes), you can make some quick and easy desserts with dry fruits or you can rehydrate them. You have a lot of choices to enjoy them.
