Plum dumplings recipe with semolina coating

Let’s say hello again to plums. This time, to a easy plum dumplings recipe, from my sweet childhood. With a traditional potatoes dough like my grandma used to do and that delicious semolina coating (I always loved the coating of the plum dumplings - with semolina or bread crumbs, sugar and cinnamon or vanilla). And the hot plums filling….


  • For dough: 500 g potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • a pinch of salt
  • 250 g flour
  • 10 plums (for filling)
  • 150 g semolina
  • 150 g sugar
  • 10 g butter


Step 01

For the plum dumplings dough , boil potatoes until soft and  mash them. When they are cold  add flour bit by bit and  the egg . Mix well  and refrigerate for 1 h.

For the sweet filling, ash 10 plums,  cut them in half and remove pits. Whith  wet hand take a little bit of dough and coat a half of a plum whith it. You have to get a ball shape.

Step 02

Bring slighlty salted water to boil and add a tablespoon of butter. Drop the  plum dumplings into the boiling water and boil for about 8 - 10 min. Do not  crowd dumplings in the pot.

  For semolina coating, grase a pan whith a small amount of butter and roast the semolina until is golden brown.Take a side, add sugar and mix well. You can also use breadcrumb for coating (use the same amount, just replace the semolina with it). When the plum  dumplings are dried well, toss them into the semolina coating.
